Condition:

GOOD

In overall good condition. Antique and vintage items by their very nature show normal wear to finish and miscellaneous scratches, nicks, and dings due to age and use. As we define 'good condition' relative to the stated age of the piece, we would expect to see 'character marks' consistent with that age and could include nicks or dings to a wooden, metal, enamel, or chalkware object, wear to a painted surface, speckling on a mirror, crazing, wear to gilding, or manufacturing glaze skips in ceramic finish, wear to a label, and some original decorative trim may be missing. If ceramic/porcelain restoration has been done, it is of museum-quality so that it is hardly discernible and would be specifically mentioned in the listing. 'Good condition' could include very small fleabite chips or very small hairline cracks in any glass, ceramic, or marble item, but these would be specifically mentioned in the listing.

    Mark:

    URGOS

Urgos was founded by Christian Haller, Johannes Jauch, Robert Papst, and Heinrich Rumminger in Villigen, Germany, in 1920. The company was first named Rumminger & Co. GmbH, but the name was changed to Urgos in 1923. Urgos specialized in building movements for Westminster striking clocks. With just 50 employees in 1925, Urgos grew quickly and by 1936 employed 140 workers, however the entire staff was conscripted into military service under Hitler’s Third Reich. Due to the involvement with Hitler’s regime, all of Urgos’ machinery was dismantled after World War II. Eventually the entire Urgos manufacturing plant was auctioned in 1992. Urgos movements are marked with UW and then the particular model number.

    Style:

    MID-CENTURY MODERN STYLE

Decorative arts and architecture from the period after World War II and continuing through the 1960s is known as Mid-Century Modern, and in many ways is a continuation of the sleek, streamlined aesthetic developed with the Art Deco style. Hallmarks of the Mid-Century Modern style are a great emphasis on utility and functionality as well as simplicity and the use of natural shapes. Architects continued to employ the principles of Frank Lloyd Wright, by streamlining homes with the use of open floor plans and bringing the outside in by using ample windows. Sometimes called Danish or Swedish Modern, furniture from this era was created in very light woods and continued to use the rectilinear and streamlined forms of Art Deco. The Heywood-Wakefield furniture brand was a household name, while modern chairs designed by Charles Eames were in great demand. Russel and Mary Wright influenced all aspects of home design with their Iroquois chinaware and with the publication of Guide to Easier Living in 1950.

    Object:

MANTEL CLOCK / GARNITURE MANTEL CLOCK

Mantel clocks are relatively small, moveable clocks traditionally placed on a shelf, or mantel, above the fireplace. The form, first developed in France in the 1750s, can be distinguished from earlier clocks of similar size due to a lack of carrying handles. A Garniture Mantel clock is a three-piece set, which features a clock in the middle with two garnitures, or decorative sidepieces. Mantel clocks are often highly ornate, decorative works.

    Additional Information:

Because EuroLux Antiques maintains its own website and lists on other online sites, while also operating a physical store location in Newberry, South Carolina, we reserve the right to end any listing early if it has not been purchased outright or no bids have been placed upon the item. On occasion, a piece listed on a website may no longer be available. We do our best to maintain the accuracy of our inventory records but we often have customers interested in the same item at the same time. In those cases, we defer to the customer who placed the earlier order. We apologize in advance by any inconvenience this may cause. Because of this, we encourage all of our buyers to purchase the item as quickly as possible so that your treasured find doesn't sell elsewhere to someone else. Happy browsing and thanks! Aimee & Greg Talbot at EuroLux Antiques.

Please note that EuroLux Antiques goes to great lengths to include information about the functioning of any clock we list under the 'Condition' section of our listings. This information, to the best of our knowledge, is accurate at the time of the listing. For clocks that are listed as being in FULL working order (i.e., clock runs, clock strikes (if applicable), clock chimes (if applicable)), we typically test them again for 24-48 hours prior to shipping to confirm the accuracy of those statements. The customer will be contacted prior to shipping if a clock is found not to be fully functional, if so stated in the listing, as defined above.

EuroLux Antiques provides a detailed leaflet about the functioning and care of vintage clocks with each clock that is shipped, whether the clock is fully functional or not. On occasion, stress during shipping and changes in the clock's environment can cause the clock to require a 'break in' period once the clock arrives at its destination.

EuroLux Antiques and EuroLux Imports, Inc. warrants that the clock is in the mechanical condition as stated in the listing at the time that the clock is shipped from our facility. We are happy to assist the customer getting a clock to resume functioning, as represented in the listing.

EuroLux Antiques and EuroLux Imports, Inc. provide no other warranties, express or implied, concerning the accuracy of time kept by the clock. Additionally, due to the nature of vintage clocks and our inability to control the clock's placement or treatment in the customer's home we cannot warrant the the future functionality of the clock after delivery and set-up in the customer's home. Any claim will be handled in strict compliance with EuroLux Antiques' Return Policy.
