They are the most versatile pieces in the antique furniture arsenal: trunks, chests of drawers, and vanities. At EuroLux Antiques we know there are countless uses for these items and we have pieced together an inventory that will satisfy every homeowner and designer's imagination. We bring Europe home to you!

Antique Trunks Hold Prized Possessions

Long before our ancestors crafted and used chests of drawers, simple antique trunks held the bulk of their belongings. What started as basic wooden boxes held together with iron straps and hinges soon evolved into more fanciful styles. Painted and carved antique trunks served to demonstrate the social status of their owners while the materials from which these trunks are made still help identify place of origin.

Many examples of antique trunks survive, however, condition is key to the value of these pieces. Ideally, trunks should be strong, substantial, and offer the same level of utility as existed at the time of their construction. While today's owners may fill antique trunks with contents their makers could not imagine, the purpose of the trunk remains the same: to hold and protect our most prized possessions.

Antique Chest of Drawers are Versatile

From the painted and gilded chests of drawers found in the French countryside, to the ornately carved examples from the Louis XV period – antique chests of drawers enjoy use throughout the home. These pieces can be modified to serve as tasteful bathroom vanities, or they can be topped with a marble slab to create a truly lovely kitchen island. Of course, antique chests of drawers can also still function as they were always intended: as a place to keep clothing and delicate items.

Add Romance to Your Home with Antique Vanities

There is a romance connected to antique vanities that few other pieces of furniture convey. The tall mirror in which to fully study ourselves, the small drawers protecting our most intimate possessions, and the simple joy of taking a few moments to pamper ourselves – these are the reasons the vanity was created. Antique vanities are, of course, most at home in the bedroom but they can also work surprisingly well in foyers, hallways and even offices where they can serve as small desks.
